Langtang Region Treks

Among many fascinating areas in Nepal, Langtang is one of the regions that give a trekkers wholesome experience of natures bold and beauty. 'The Valley Of Glaciers', the Langtang Valley runs parallel with the Tibetan border north of Kathmandu and is therefore away from both the Everest and Annapurna regions. The Langtang region which falls in the central Nepal is very easily accessible from Kathmandu and is a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border Kyirong. This high and isolated region is inhabited by Tamangs tribe whose religious practices, language and dress are much more similar to those of Tibet than to the traditions of their cousins in the middle hills.

The upper valley in Langtang is a grazing paradise, rich in flowers and grass and dotted with stone huts used in the summertime butter-making. Other attraction, Gosainkunda; high up within an open ridge, offers shorter treks than Langtang. Gosainkunda Lake (4,298 m), is sacred holy spot and is dedicated to Lord Shiva where thousands of pilgrims gather every year during August full moon. In mythological belief, Shiva is said to have created holy Gosainkunda Lake with his trident and its waters are believed to be connected via subterranean channels to Patan's Khumbeshwar Mahadev temple. Around this region there are other 13 beautiful lakes. Rhododenron forests, Tamang villages and smiling faces of the people are the main highlights of this region. Once you walk through the preserved National Park area and lucky enough then you might encounter with wild animals like wild boar, bear, barking dear, leopard or even red panda.

In short, Langtang Trek is one of the best trekking destinations for all those who enjoy natural landscape and distinct cultural practices along with bio diversity. The region is popular for its culture, religion and a splendid Himalaya range, beautiful waterfalls and green forests. The good news is that Langtang is logistically easy- no special permits, few altitude hassles, descents tea houses along with long bus drives and some camping experiences. Everyone should visit this trekking region as it has in store a lot for a nature lover.
